Term 3

Monday 29th January - Friday 2nd February 2024

This week, we have been learning about famous speeches throughout history.  We have practised performing speeches to each other from people such as Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai and Winston Churchill.  We have watched videos of powerful speeches from Martin Luther King who was activist in the civil rights movement in the USA and Severn Cullis-Suzuki who addressed the UN in Rio De Janeiro on Climate change.  In science, we have learnt about blood and the components of which it consists.  We gave also continued our important work with the Mini Police.

Monday 22nd January - Friday 26th January 2024

This week, we have planned and written our own three pages to insert into the story of 'The Giant and the Sea.'  We have used the skills that we have been practising over the last three weeks - dialogue to move the story on, developing character and complex sentences - within our writing.   In science, we have continued to learn about the heart and how it functions.  We have continued to think about the stories and teachings from the bible.

Monday 15th January - 19th January 2024

This week in English, we have been focusing on how, as authors, we can give our reader clues about a character.  We have started to learn about the heart - naming the parts of it and thinking about the importance of it's job in our bodies.  In music, we have continued to think about how songs can influence our thoughts and feeling.  We have also been thinking about the impact of the stories and teachings of Jesus on the Christian faith.

We had a special assembly this week where we received our Mini Police identifications!

Monday 8th January - Friday 12th January 2024

In Fox class this week, we have been continuing to explore our story of 'The Giant and the Sea' and have been thinking about how the author has used language to interest the reader and dialogue to move the story on.   We have enjoyed starting our curriculum unit all about healthy hearts and revisited our knowledge of the human body - organs and names of bones in the skeleton.

In exciting news, the Year 5s in our class have started their Mini Police project!  WE recieved our uniforms and got to explore a real-life police van.

Wednesday 3rd January - Friday 5th January 2024

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We may have only been in school for 3 days this week but we have managed to fit in lots of new learning!  In English, we read our new book that we will be focussing on this term - 'The Giant and the Sea' by Trent Jamieson and Rovina Cai.  It is an interesting story and we enjoyed discussing the illustrations. Our maths lessons are focussing on fractions and we are becoming more skilled in our learning.

We started our Jigsaw unit on Dreams and Goals - thinking about what we want to improve on in the future.
