Welcome to Dormouse Class

I am Mrs Bramwell the class teacher for Dormouse class. I have worked at Cadbury Heath Primary School for 4 years in reception class.  I am also the school leader for Phonics and Early Reading as well as English. I have time allocated out of class on all day Tuesday and a Wednesday afternoon for planning and to manage the additional roles. This is covered by the same people to ensure continuity.

In Dormouse Class, we provide a high-quality EYFS education giving children a secure and confident start to their school life. We are committed to nurturing a lifelong love of learning alongside the aims of the EYFS Statutory Framework. We strive for high standards, consider the development of the whole child and seek to foster resilience and independence. We are inclusive and welcoming to all. We aim to provide the essential knowledge that children need to prepare them for their future success and to give children the best possible start to their early education.

Staff are organised to support the children in a balance of adult-led and child-initiated experiences throughout the sessions and the children have free flow access to outdoor learning and provision.

The experienced team plan a variety of exciting learning opportunities each day as well as responding to unplanned themes or topics that interest the children.

Important Information

PE

PE is every Friday. As a part of our curriculum includes being able to dress we ask the children to bring their PE kit into school to change into.

The children need:

  • coloured house t-shirt
  • black shorts/ jogging bottoms

No shoes will be needed for PE until the summer term.

Please ensure everything is named as I'm sure you can imagine matching clothes to their owners can be challenging!

Reading

As part of our phonics the children will take part in reading sessions three times per week. They will then bring the book home. We expect the children to read fluently by the time they bring it home.

They will also bring home a library book which is for pleasure - they are not expected to read it independently.

We would like the children to read 5 times per week. Please record all reading in the reading records.

Reading books are changed every Thursday. New books will not be issued until the previous one has been returned.

Maths

You will have a individual log in for an online platform called "Numbots" which supports the development of number recognition, subitising and counting. We would like the children to access this as often as possible. Certificates are issued for various achievements.
